To understand how to address homelessness, policymakers should realize the relationship between homelessness and individuals' pasts. I spoke with an employer who had gone out of his way to employ an individual, who had direct experience with homelessness. The employer's comments supported the proposition that a rough childhood can be more than correlated with homelessness. According to one source, specifically regards youth homelessness, "97% of homeless young people experienced at least one Adverse Childhood Experience" (“What Causes Youth Homelessness?” Llamau, https://www.llamau.org.uk/what-causes-yo...melessness).
If a tough childhood is found to be a probable cause of homelessness, policymakers would do well to consider the work of nonprofit organizations that are reaching out to the next generation in America. When the causes of homelessness are resolved, the world will see a decrease in homelessness.
