Mixed Income Communities - Cohousing
#1
I just read the Spring 2013 Evidence Matters on Mixed Income Housing Strategies. Very interesting, and clearly an area that needs more research. I have been involved in developing cohousing communities, collaborative neighborhoods that combine private homes with extensive common facilities with a high degree of resident participation. While these communities are primarily market-rate, we have seen numerous examples of income diversity thru formal inclusionary housing programs and less formal neighborly assistance. These communities provide the "Real intentional thought and action in how to help people navigate a mixed -income community is necessary" that the article references. Would be great to see more research of these examples.
